I woke up this morning, felt about a hundred years old.
I woke up this morning, felt like I was one hundred years old.
Well, it's not about the number of your days,
It's how regret weighs on your soul.
Choose your battles carefully,
There are so few wars worthwhile to wage.
Better pick your battles carefully
There are so few wars worthwhile to wage.
Better think about the fallout,
Every time you fly into a rage.
We teeter on the precipice; act like it's a level mesa land.
Inches from the great abyss, pretending that we got things well in hand.
In the end we're kings of nothin'
And the end always comes quicker than you planned.
Bust out your windows,
Jimmy all your locks,
Listen to the whisper when the Spirit talks.
Lay down your treasure,
Throw away your clocks,
This is hallowed ground, do the spirit walk – spirit walk.
The devil slid up to me, he said “Why don't we have a little chat?”
I got a bit suspicious when he refused to let me take his hat.
He said, “I know about your unfulfilled desires,
I can help you out with that.”
I said, “That's awfully temping, I guess that's the business that you're in.”
“What would you need for payment?” he just looked down with a sheepish grin.
I said, “I think I'll pass.”
He said, “That's okay but I'll be back again.”
It don't take Nostradamus to tell you how the chips are gonna fall.
Open up your Bible, you don't need some gypsy's crystal ball.
The way things are these days,
Even Ray Charles could see the writing on the wall.
Bust out your windows,
Jimmy all your locks,
Listen to the whisper when the Spirit talks.
Lay down your treasure,
Throw away your clocks,
This is hallowed ground, do the spirit walk – spirit walk.
I woke up this morning, grateful that I still was sucking wind.
I woke up today, I was breathing out, breathing in.
Now most people take that for granted,
Man, that's gotta be some kind of sin.
I don't mean to whine and moan, I know some people like to sing the blues.
Not trying to play the victim, like some folks who just love to sing the blues.
But I've learned so much the hard way,
Hope there's something here someone can use.

On a Whim made me think of UB40’s “Red Red Wine,” so I started listening to that, and then I saw it was actually a Neil Diamond song, so then I started listening to his greatest hits. Quite a trip I’ve been on this morning. jssguitars
